Bolivia Tour (ii)

Our next tour day was quite quiet. A cold morning followed by a long drive. We saw some interesting things. First up was some thermal springs. I got in trouble for wandering off behind a cloud of steam - oops. Then to the Green Lake. It is pretty. Before that we were in the Dali Valley. The colours and shapes of the rocks are quite amazing.

Laguna Verde

There are no petrol stations around here. You need to carry all your juice with you. This is our driver, Pocho, filling the car up.

Fuel stop

We had lunch next to a thermal bath. I went for a dip - it was lovely. T decided against it on the grounds that it would be cold when you got out. It was.

Kicking back

The red lake was where the Flamingoes were. Or not. We saw a few, but probably more dead ones than alive. A shame really - but there you go. Given our luck seeing all the other animals, I guess we can survive without the flamingoes. Only problem was that T had been promised them and the whole trip was partially sold on the promise of flocks of pretty flamingoes. She put a very brave face on her disappointment.

Laguna Colorada

So, back to the freezer, which was, this time, a little warmer. At the hotel we were joined by a Spanish couple who couldn't believe the shower or heating choice. We sympathised like the seasoned professionals that we are.

After dinner we were treated to some local music performed by the local school. Villa Mar has a school of 93 kids up to the age of 11. There are 6 teachers and the kids need to go to Uyuni (4hrs away) for school after 11. The teachers looked more nervous than the kids. The son of the couple who ran the hotel sat in rapt attention, mouthing all the words to the songs. When he gets a bit older, I bet he'll be the star of the troupe.
